DISCHARGED AND ACQUITTED!
One sunny Monday afternoon, Mr Jeff Smith was arrested by the cops for acts of theft and murder carried out in the neighborhood some three days ago. Everyone knew Jeff was a "bad man" but no one knew he was a armed robber killing and stealing from neighbours.
As soon as his case was filed in court, Jeff was asked to get himself an attorney but he had none. His family had left him 20 years ago because of his wayward life. He had no responsible friend that could help him at this time especially as the charges spelt out against him were almost true.
His case was charged to the court and a date fixed. After court formalities Jeff's case was presented for consideration. Several undeniable proofs of his guiltiness were made by witnesses who testified against him. Asked to defend himself, Jeff couldn't say a word but began to cry. He knew not what to say nor do but he didn't want to die too.
The court room was silent for about two minutes as echoes of Jeff's sobs filled the air. The desperate witnesses demanded that the judge place his judgentment quickly since Jeff couldn't say a word.
Suddenly, a man stood up from amongst the witnesses sitting in the court room. He walked up in front of the judge and said these words...
"My Lord, I know Jeff is worthy of death, but I appeal on his behalf that consideration be made. My name is Barister Fred Miller, an attorney of the federal republic. I'm Jeff's old relative and I've come to appeal on his behalf. By law, criminals like Jeff are entitled to monetary bail of $500 or be sentenced to death by hanging. I therefore appeal to this honorable court that Jeff be bailed. In this envelope is the $500 dollars for his bail"
Barister Fred handed the envelop to the court secretary and stepped back to his seat.
Jeff was amazed in tears as the judge made deliberations and considerations for the acceptance of his bail or not. Jeff was asked if he knew Barister Fred and if he accepted the bail he was proposing on his behalf.
With a blend of utmost excitement and remorse, Jeff screamed "I accept! I accept!!"
After some considerations, Jeff's bail was accepted and he was declared "Discharged and acquitted"
Tears of joy rolled out of Jeff's face as he wept in sorrow for his criminal acts and thanked Fred for coming to his rescue. He promised he wasn't going to join armed robbers anymore.
Like Jeff Smith, we are all sinners by nature and entitled to die as a result of sin.
Our forefather (Adam) sinned and by inheritance we became sinners too. But like Fred, Jesus has paid the price for our sin. All we need to do is to, like Jeff, scream "I accept! I accept!"
Let not the price Jesus has paid on the cross of calvary be in vain in your life today. Jesus has paid the price for your freedom, accept Him today, so you too can be declared "Discharged and Acquitted!"
